| Zooey's portraits are made the old-fashioned way, with a Zeiss Ikon medium-format camera dating from the late 1950's. He develops his negatives himself in a darkroom and then mounts them by hand on acid-free fiber paper. He works only in black and white.
Strictly speaking, Zooey doesn't pose dogs. He suggests places for them to settle, but then waits until the dog is sufficiently relaxed for his/her own personality to emerge. Each dog has a pose that is distinctly him/her. Finding that definitive pose is the portrait photographer's job. Anything else is false.
Allowing for the skill, labor and materials involved, Zooey's photos are a bargain. Contact zooey@thedoghousenyc.com for pricing. Just compare his product and prices with other pet photographers! Zooey's only requirement is that he get to know the dog.
Zooey also has a calendar and notecards coming out in 2006. Look for them: Dog House Dogs by Zooey.
